Take a bow!
Gilmer Middle School has been recognized as a Title I Distinguished School, according to State Superintendent of Schools, Kathy Cox. Noted for a continued emphasis towards excellence, GMS has been recognized for making Annual Yearly Progress for 3 consecutive years. This award/recognition represents all Faculty, Staff, Parents, Students, and Community at large. |
Historically when the U.S. economy slows and unemployment rises, more students become eligible for free or reduced-priced meals. Parents or guardians are encouraged to apply for these benefits at the beginning of each school year, but they can do so at any time during the year.
If a family experiences a decrease in income, becomes unemployed, or has an increase in family size, they are encouraged to call the school nutrition office at 706-276-5030 for assistance with the application process. |
Working as a Team! GMS and Parents.
State School Superintendent Kathy Cox was noted in her recognition of National Parent Day, on November 19th, as saying that, "The evidence is overwhelming: Students who have highly-involved families get higher grades, have fewer discipline problems, and are more likely to be successful throughout their entire life. No matter how little or how much time you have, there are many ways you can positively impact your child’s education. Being an involved parent can simply mean doing the little things that matter, like checking homework folders, going to parent curriculum nights, getting online to help your child find a book, practice a test, or email a teacher or counselor. Parent involvement is also being informed about what your child is learning and how they are succeeding in the classroom. It is knowing the questions to ask the principal and teacher. It is providing a rich learning environment at home, expressing high educational expectations and, most importantly, showing that you care. In general, great parent involvement means making sure your child knows that you value their education more than anything else – and they should, too!" https://email.gilmerschools.com/owa/attachment.ashx?attach=1&id=RgAAAAA%2bRBH27R1ZRppRgr8sqRtIBwBMUzHDgOMAQ5hxPLmgc%2fSoAAAF2cm0AABMUzHDgOMAQ5hxPLmgc%2fSoAICvI3h1AAAJ&attid0=EAAmkXKNnV95SLOEp8fPQ60Y&attcnt=1 On behalf of GMS Administration, Faculty, and Staff, let us reiterate and say "Thanks" for the support and contributions you have made to Gilmer Middle School. |
Making a Difference!
Gilmer Middle School is proud to work collaboratively with our Local 4-H Chapter in our effort to support the Ronald McDonald House. We are currently collecting can "Pop Tops" from all aluminum cans. Each homeroom has a receptacle for collection. We encourage you to collect these tabs and send to the attention of your child's homeroom teacher. Such a simple request can make such a dramatic impact! For more information on this worthy cause please visit: http://rmhc.org/ |
It Takes A Village!
Just as important as being a good student, is the necessity to be a good citizen, and GMS recognizes its accountability in that process. Although we accept our responsibility, we certainly are not able to do that alone. With that thought in mind, GMS embraces the Local School Council concept. The LSC is an advisory committee comprised of all stakeholders (Administration/Parents/Business Community) who actively engage in conversation regarding the educational process. The LSC provides a great opportunity to strengthen community understanding and awareness of our daily operations and allows a voice. Current Members Include: Jason Kouns-Principal Larry Walker-Asst.
